Michael Grinder & Associates in partnership with Krista Grinder Group presents the digital video: American Sign Language for the Classroom.
Would you like to have more energy at the end of your school day? Be able to silently communicate to your students from across the classroom, hallway, or even in a loud auditorium? Well you can!
Every year as educators, we use non-verbal cues. We come up with cute signals that might work in “our” classroom, but if the student is going from one room to another and each teacher is using different non-verbal cues, it can get confusing—if not frustrating— for both the teacher and the student. Why not use one non-verbal language? A language that is already established… American Sign Language! The whole school could use the same non-verbal language, skipping the confusion and frustration, plus giving students a jump start in a second language!
According to research, 80% of talking in the classroom is done by the teacher. Decrease that percentage by using American Sign Language and start increasing the energy you have at the end of the school day. NEA research shows that 82% of communication is through non-verbal language, why not use non-verbal language that is clear and universal?
This video is set up not only for the teacher to learn ASL “signs,” but can be used for the students to learn as well. Just show the “signs” that you want the students to use in the classroom right from your computer. Introduce one or two a day and reinforce throughout the school year. The video is separated into categories so you can quickly skip to the content area you want.
Save your voice and start using American Sign Language in your classroom today!
